Oulart the Ballagh Camogie Club was formed in the late 70’s. The officers at that time were Jimmy Fortune, Ann Kirwan (nee O’Connor), Catherine Cullen, with committee members Margaret Stamp, Mary Redmond, Rosie Nolan, Hugh O’Connor, Mrs Babs Britton (RIP).
Since then the club has had great success. Initial success came at under age level with many titles won at u-12, u-14, u-16, u-18, Junior, and Intermediate then at senior level. The club achieved an incredible 5 in a row premier Feile Camogie titles from 1998 to 2002. A fantastic achievement for a small rural club. A great feature of this 5 in a row was that current Club member Una Leacy played an influential role in all 5 wins. A feat that will probably never be equalled.
A feature of Feile 2001 was that due to foot and mouth disease the finals were moved from Ulster to Cork and Oulart the Ballagh won the premier Feile titles in both camogie and hurling. What an achievement for our club.
In recent years most of the girls from the winning Feile teams have made the break through at senior level for the club. Some of the winning Feile girls have had great success with the Wexford County team winning All-Ireland Senior titles in 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and an Intermediate title in 2011. Captains for these winning titles were Mary Leacy, Una Leacy,
Ursula Jacob and Karen Atkinson all present Club girls. Former Club player, Colleen Atkinson captained the All-Ireland Intermediate winners in 2011. The girls also won National league titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011 at both Senior and Intermediate levels and also All Ireland Senior and Junior titles with Coláiste Bríde Enniscorthy, and Ashbourne
Cup with UCD and WIT. Some of the girls have also won camogie All-Stars awards.
To date the Club has won 12 County Senior Club titles (in 2003, 04, 05, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16). They also are the holders of 6 Leinster Senior Club titles won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 & 2015. The Club also reached the “holy grail” of All-Ireland Senior Club champions on two occasions – in 2011 and 2014. In addition the Club have won 3 Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland 7’s titles.
With years of commitment, dedication and hard work from the panel of players, mentors and committees over the year, Oulart/The Ballagh camogie club are now in this position for the first time ever.
The commitment, dedication and hard work from players, mentors and committees over numerous years has contributed in no small way to the success of the Club and it is hoped that with continued commitment and dedication from all involved, Oulart the Ballagh Camogie Club can look forward to the future with confidence.
