Oulart-The Ballagh have won 13 Wexford Senior hurling championships (1994-2016) elevating the club to second place in the Wexford roll of honour.

Tracing its roots back to the earliest days of the GAA, (1886) Oulart-The Ballagh has a proud history of involvement in Gaelic Games. Names that spring readily to mind are P.P. Sutton, (hurler, administrator, organiser and journalist) J. Royce (The Irish Invasion of America) Jim Mythen (All-Ireland 1910), Christy & Michael Jacob (All Ireland 1968), Martin Storey, Liam Dunne & Paul Finn (All Ireland 1996), Jacob, Storey & Dunne (each awarded three All-Stars) and even though county titles were scarce until the unification of the two areas of the parish in 1954, the club has always
been known for its dedication to the craft of the camán, coupled with expertise at football and handball and, in recent times, the success of its senior camogie team that has won two All-Ireland Club Championships Titles, six Leinster Club titles and twelve Co. Senior titles.

The Oulart Hill Club contested and lost the first ever Wexford senior hurling final of 1888 (played in 1889) and were runners up in 1908, 1911 & 1912 (fielding as Oulart-The Ballagh) and 1921 (The Ballagh) and it wasn’t until 1994 that the first of its thirteen senior titles was won. The Oulart club won the Co. Junior hurling title in 1904, a feat that was repeated by Oulart-The Ballagh in 1967 and 2005, Intermediate titles were won in 1968 and 1985.

Success in the Senior grade came in 1994, 1995, 1997, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, while the club was on the losing side in 1974, 1975, 1982, 1989, 1992, 2000, 2006 and 2008 In addition, the club has created records at under-age & primary school level that may never be equalled. And the icing on the cake arrived in 2013 when Oulart-The Ballagh became the only Wexford senior hurling team to win a unique and record-making “Five-in-a-row”. The elusive Leinster Club championship was won in 2015.

Oulart-The Ballagh has been quite successful in football too, winning Junior B in 1989 and Junior A in 1991 along with numerous underage titles. It is a little-known fact that football was very strong in The Ballagh area in the early days of the GAA and teams from Ballaghkeen were runners-up in the Senior Football championship in 1888, 1889 and 1898.

The crest on the Oulart-The Ballagh gear features the pike, a reminder of the Battle of Oulart Hill fought and won by the rebels, led by Fr. John Murphy of Boolavogue, on Whit Sunday, 27th May, 1798. Interestingly, that crest was designed by an tAthair Séamas de Vál, retired parish priest of Oulart whose own father, John Wall of Bunclody won three All-Ireland medals with the famous Wexford Four-in-a-row Football team of 1915-1918.

Teams from the parish of Oulart and the Ballagh are recognised for their skill, discipline and team-work, attributes that are inculcated into the players from the moment they grasp a Hurley, while another characteristic of Oulart-The Ballagh hurlers is their willingness to stay involved when their own playing days are over. Membership of the G.A.A. leads to active citizenship at local as well as national level and it is an undisputed fact that communities would be much impoverished if denied the input of local G.A.A. activists.

We have lots of new development in our club over the past four years with our new dressing-room and gym facilities and parking facilities on the lower pitch. On the top pitch we have developed an Astro surface at the hurling wall and a new stand and electronic score boards. which is a huge asset to the club and great for supporters and visitors alike. Our walking track it also a great way to get parents/guardians and family up to the pitch while under age training is on making it a hive activity every
evening of the week.

The Club has over 130 under age boys playing hurling and with lots of expert coaching and training being provided, for boys and girls from under-5 years, upwards in a safe and happy environment. We have four adult hurling teams and two adult camogie teams along with all under-age teams from under 7 to under 18.

In our small rural parish we would like to thank everyone in the parish and beyond who has contributed to our successes and development over the years making our club and of the most s
